OU Economic Development Organizes First Independent TEDx Event On Campus

TEDxOUOn January 27, 2012, the first ever TEDxOU event brought together 361 students, innovators, creatives, and leaders in the Oklahoma Memorial Union to celebrate and discuss Ideas Worth Spreading.

While the organizers were lent general guidance by the overseeing nonprofit TED, the entire event was independently organized by CCEW students, OU Economic Development staff members, and community leaders.

"We simply hope to consistently bring together bright, curious, and energetic people from diverse backgrounds and disciplines to foster authentic dialogue about important issues," says Adam Croom, TEDxOU organizer.

"The best measure for what we were trying to do was the feedback we got from our participants, who took the challenge of DOING something and the innovation that we saw that was sparked because of TEDxOU." Results were immediately apparent. One participant used the techniques she learned from improvisational comedy gurus and TEDxOU hosts Buck and Clint Vrazel to help stimulate her creative momentum and write her thesis.

Videos of the talks are available from TEDxOU organizers. Learn about the importance of cooking from scratch and conscientious eating from OU's own Dr. Julia Ehrhardt, or hear local entrepreneur Ken Parker speak about the latest innovations in education technology. Be sure to connect with TEDxOU on Twitter and Facebook for information on the next TEDxOU.
